Sidney Crosby is back in the NHL for the shortened 2013 season, after missing most of the last season with a serious concussion.

Every once in a while, a young sports phenon emerges with the talent and promise of few before him. Hockey has had its fair share of great up and coming players. Sidney Crosby Over the last quarter century, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemiuex and Eric Lindros were identified as future National Hockey League (NHL) greats early on in their lives. Sidney Crosby is the most recent such hockey phenom; a player that many believe is destined for greatness in the NHL.

Sidney has excelled at every level of organized hockey he has participated in. His hockey skills, temperament and physical stature often bring comparisons to on of the greatest hockey players ever - the great one himself, Wayne Gretzky. Sidney certainly played his part in re-juvinating the NHL as it came off an ugly labour dispute. Though he did not really get a great opportunity to play beside the great Mario Lemieux who was forced to retire due to health reasons, Sid brought a sense of excitement to Pittsburgh despite the very poor overall season played by the Penguins. The fans there certainly have a lot to look forward to in the future. They got a brief glimpse of this potentially bright future in the 2008 Stanley Cup playoffs where a young Penguins team lead by Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Marc-Andre Fleury and Jordan Staal, lost to the Detroit Red Wings in the Stanley Cup finals. The following year, Sidney did not disappoint by winning the Stanley Cup, defeating the same Red Wings team. He was also instrumental in Team Canada winning the hockey gold medal at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic games.

Sidney's committment to being a great hockey player was visible at an early age and he has carried through the path to the NHL that he and his family laid out.
